New Generation Step Safety Graphic

Motion Icon Europe is proud to announce the launch of our new generation step safety graphic in association with TK Elevator. After 14 months of product development and intensive testing, Motion Icon’s patented escalator step safety graphics have now risen to new heights, escalating safety awareness to all passengers utilising these daily commutable assets.

Passenger safety is paramount when using escalators, and here at Motion Icon Europe and TKE, we take this very seriously. Looking into ways of assisting passengers with safety signage has been a key factor, as often these warning and safety signs are displayed on the glass or aluminium balustrades at a 90 degree angle to the passengers’ route of travel… resulting in them not being seen effectively. When a step safety graphic is displayed on the step riser, it is visible from a distance right up the point of entry and during travel on the escalator for passengers. The focus of passengers is transferred from looking around to looking at where they are walking and standing, resulting in the message being clearly displayed. Everything from colour contrast to demarcation strips, to text and font size, have been taken into account for all passenger use benefits, both mobility impaired, as well as able-bodied passengers are all accounted for.

The second, and probably more important feature offered by our new generation panels is the fact that they reduce the step gap between the step and riser and have an anti-friction finish which reduces the friction coefficient on the riser. Both these features add to the reduction of entrapment risks, whereby soft rubber shoes can be pulled into the steps resulting in serious human injury. We have seen too many broken and ripped shoes found in escalator pits across the world and have studied many accident reports over the past year. If we could save one child or one person from the loss of life or limb from escalator entrapment, we have been successful.

TK Elevator is looking forward to teaming up and enrolling this step branding product with Motion Icon Europe in this field of advertisement on escalators. Our Product Development Centre thoroughly tested these step panels. Beside the confirmation of their durability, we also found out that they increase the safety considerably. Not only that these panels reduce the gap dimension between two consecutive steps, but they also provide a better friction coefficient compared to standard steps. This feature is reducing the risk of entrapment between the steps substantially
